Safe Motorcycle Hauling—It’s a Matter of Choice
At highway speeds, towing a poorly designed, improperly loaded trailer is a hair raising, sphincter tightening experience. Take a look at this U-Haul sponsored video (“Towing a Trailer can be dangerous”) below, and you’ll see what I mean.
Clearly, properly positioning your trailer’s load with no more than 40% of the load behind the axle is critical to stable towing. But that’s not all there is to it.
Buying a trailer designed and built with dimensions that make it impossible to load it improperly is a really good starting point. Take a look at the Aluma Trailers video (“Trailer Weight Design”) below and you’ll see what I mean.
Since motorcycles are always roughly the same shape, length and width, buying a trailer that is impossible to overload to the rear or the front would seem to be a no-brainer. Check out the motorcycle trailer in the Aluma video and you’ll see one like that.
